Nowadays, many people say that if you use Facebook, then you are wasting your time. You can’t study well if you use Facebook. It makes your own people stop associating with you. And they say since Facebook will not provide you food and money, leave it and go to work.
I went through this situation. I was addicted to Facebook, so what else could I do except ignore their comments? One day I was in college and thinking about doing something that could prove them wrong. Although they were not wrong, I just wanted to prove them wrong because I believed I didn’t use Facebook the way other people use it. But I was having trouble deciding what to do. I didn’t just want to prove them wrong, but also to prove to myself that I was doing something right. I asked one of my senior college mates. He told me if you think you are wasting your time and want to learn something, why don’t you like some good Facebook pages? There are some good pages that will help you in your study as well.

It was a good suggestion so I liked many pages where I was getting educational stuff daily. I not only watched their daily posts but also I made some good friends who posted impressive comments on those posts. This way I made some good friends from foreign countries, and while talking to them I learned to improve my English as well. I liked some hacking pages and got some cool stuff. (Though I call it n00b stuff now ?. ) I was wondering who could make Facebook pages and share daily stuff for free. Sharing is a good thing so why don’t I share anything?
So I finally googled how to make a Facebook page and then created a page for my city. I invited all my friends to like this page and invite their friends. It helped me to get good likes (followers) for my page. I shared so many beautiful photos of my lake city on a daily basis. Still, I kept hearing those comments. (the first paragraph).
One day I saw a post in my newsfeed: The owner of a big page (a technology related page) was looking for an author who could update their page. I didn’t want to miss such an opportunity so I emailed the page owner and described myself as an author and ethical hacker. Though I knew some n00b stuff only, it was enough to impress him. And I became the author of a Facebook page that had 170,000 followers. I was feeling like the sky was below me and I was high as a bird. I finally had something to show to the people who kept saying those lines. (Yeah, first paragraph).

I was sharing good stuff on the page and got good responses and good likes. The page owner was also happy because I was doing it for free. They were many people that had a secret group but I was part of it so I could see what they did behind the page. I hated them for that and so I thought to leave them and create my own page where I would be the owner and share good things with my audience. But I could not do this alone so I added few people to the conversation and asked them to join me. They were just random strangers but many of them had shown interest and I finalized a team after seeing their passion, interest, and excitement.

Everything was fine but I could not decide on a name, so I decided to ask my new team. It was November 9, 2013, and at around 8 PM IST, I posted in the conversation that I couldn’t decide on a name and I said, “Help me, guys, and give your suggestions.” So many names were suggested by everyone but we could not finalize a name. 8 PM, 9 PM, 10 PM, … 1 AM and then one of my team members from South Africa suggested a good name. It was Technotification. We spent one more hour to finally decide on the name TECHNOTIFICATION.
Finally, we had a name and a team and we wanted to create a page as fast as possible. But I was in my hometown because of Diwali vacations and I did not own an android phone or a PC/laptop so I waited until the 11th of November and then I created the page…
But only creating a page was not enough; we wanted to reach many followers as soon as possible. I was still an author of that big technology page so I thought to share my new page on that big page. I felt I deserved that because I had been updating their page for more than one month. So I shared my page and got good likes. We got 1500 followers in two days, and I was happy because it was good enough for a start. This action caused removal from that tech page because they did not like my idea to share on their page.
But those 1500 were enough because we were sharing good stuff that people like to share and comment on, so we were getting new likes every day and becoming popular.
In this short time, I learned so many things, experienced how people use us for free, knew sharing is the best feeling, learned good English, and met so many people online. And the best thing was I got a team of friends who really care. They are funny, intelligent, helpful, kind, and very friendly. And the best of the best were Krishna and Golden (the one who suggested the page name).
This was how I started, how we started, but the team members left the team one by one as they were not doing anything for the page and some members were removed because they were also not doing anything. It was only me and Krishna left on the team. One day I was thinking…what went wrong? We were all good friends doing a good job, but what happened suddenly so they all left? I looked at myself and thought I was the one who removed them. I was the one who told them that they were doing nothing so they left.
I was not wrong, but I removed some people who really wanted to do something. I felt bad and removed myself from the page and granted the ownership to Krishna. I knew he would ask me why I did this and I would have no reply. I had lost many friends already so I decided to leave one more. I removed and blocked Krishna. I left Facebook.
I failed to prove the critics wrong and prove myself right. And finally, I did what they said. I was attending all classes, doing homework, and I went back to playing volleyball.
But it was only for a few days. One day I got a phone call from someone who wished me a happy birthday. I asked who it was and he said, “I am Krishna,” and he asked why I removed him. I lied that someone hacked my ID and did all these things. I added him back. I was feeling good after a few days and he made me the owner of the page again.
This time, I decided not to give up. I refreshed the whole page and started sharing good stuff. It became alive and popular again. Now the only thing remaining was to call the old team members to come back. Krishna added Golden and my college senior Vishal brother to the team again.
We were all united. There was nothing that could stop us, and this is how I started, how we started, and it was the end of 2013… A new year morning. I went to college, wished friends a happy new year, and went to the computer lab because I was still not able to answer those comments. (Yes, I am talking about the ones mentioned in the first paragraph.) I proved to myself that using Facebook is not a bad thing but still, I did not prove it to them.
And then 2014 was for proving them wrong. I achieved success…We achieved success. In my next article, I will tell you what happened in 2014 and how it was the best year for me.
Thanks for reading.
